Leading Through Literature
An Untapped Training Ground
At Leaders247 we believe that reading is one of the best training grounds for future leaders. Many years ago I read a book by Peter Drucker and picked up on a question he asked, “is management a liberal art?”
I answered myself a simple – yes. Considering the functions and demands of management – if done well – management absolutely is a liberal art. I considered the same question about leadership. Leadership and management are inseparable. You don’t do one well without the other. So, I easily reasoned, leadership is a liberal art.
As a university professor I try to integrate these principles into my courses. Often, I receive papers that provide deep contribution to the idea that literature and leadership development are connected, and that a liberal arts way of thinking pays off.
