Let’s start with the idea that the primary role of a leader is to create a culture. And, not just any culture but a culture where people love to be (rather than have to be). What are the characteristics is such a culture? And, on what should a leader focus to create such a culture? Research and my own experience shows me that a great culture is one based on trust (rather than control) and ownership. Niel Nickolaisen, Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at O. C. Tanner, presented at a meetup I sponsored, where he described the Trust / Ownership model, talk about the implications for any leader, and then he pointed us towards implementing this model in our lives. The presentation is shown below in 3-parts.
